Silent tea
two chairs, rug, tea set for two, table, cotton cord
This interactive installation will consist of an 8' x 8’ foot print, with a preferred location occupying a corner. A crochet wrapped teapot with two cups will be suspended over a small table with two chairs. Additional items may include accoutrements for the tea (to also be suspended), wall hangings and possible floor coverings to create a relaxing environment where visitors will have
the opportunity to sit and be served a cup of Silent Tea.
Sometimes you just need to sit and listen; this interactive installation provides that opportunity. During specified times (to be determined/discussed by the artist and the Pensacola Museum of Art), a variety of hot tea beverages or iced tea will be served to viewers who wish to sit with the server. Each sitting should average 5-10 minutes, the duration of the time to consume the
beverage. The server will mirror the visitor’s selection, preparing two identical cups. The server will remain silent, holding space for the visitor to chat, read, or just silently sit for the duration of the time it takes to drink a cup of tea. Upon finishing the tea, or when the visitor decides to leave, the server will clear the table and prepare for the next visitor.
